I had one experience where I wish I had used a lifeline (messed up at the crown of a hat with cables/twisted stitches and I had to rip out ALL of it and start over) and I have always used a lifeline since then. When working on patterns with repeats I insert one after every repeat. Sometimes it can be a bit tedious but if I ever have to rip back I'm grateful it's only one repeat and never a whole piece again. It’s ok, the shawl still sits in time out.
