Today I went to pick up my race packet for the Inaugural Tiburon by the Bay Half Marathon.
It feels like this race snuck up on me. Maybe I’m still feeling the high from the Nike Women’s Half Marathon two weeks ago. I just don’t feel like there was as much build up for this race as there was for Nike. It will be a huge difference for sure, there were 30,000 runners for Nike, there will be 550 runners for the half marathon in Tiburon.
After picking up the race packet we drove around Tiburon a bit trying to get a lay of the land and to become familiar with some of the terrain. According to their course description there would be some killer hills, including “Shark Fin Hill” so that made me quite nervous. Now that we’ve driven some parts of the course I feel better. I don’t usually get nervous about races in San Francisco because I’m familiar with the terrain – I grew up in San Francisco and used public transportation all over the city.
I’m excited for tomorrow’s race – it will be two half marathons in 14 days. This race will qualify me to become a Half Fanatic. I’m ridiculously excited to be able to be call myself a Half Fanatic. I don’t know why, it just seems important to me.
I’d better finish getting my gear ready and take advantage of the extra hour of sleep to be up bright and early to knock this race out of the park.
