Hello! Welcome to the first edition of DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) for 2013.

Usually by this time of the year I’m well on my way with my reading, there’s been years when I’ve read a whole book on January 1st. This year is different for some reason. We had a rough December in our house and we are still dealing with everything that happened in December. I haven’t picked any reading up since December 16th. I’m just not feeling too inspired at the moment.

For now my goal for this year is to read 52 books. In 2012 I read 60 books and normally my goal is to read at least one more book than the previous year, technically my goal should be to read 61 books but for now I’ll stay safe with 52 books, that’s definitely doable for me.

I will be keeping track of my books read towards my goal on Goodreads again this year, find me there as SimplyGabriela. Do you have any suggestions to kick start my reading this year? Please let me know in the comments what you’re already reading or what you’re looking forward to reading this year? I have some books on my iPad and some paperbacks on my shelf but I’m curious to know what you’re reading.

DEAR = Drop Everything And Read: When I was in grammar school (in the 1980s) the reading time during school was called DEAR, over the years it has changed to SSR – Sustained Silent Reading and RIF – Reading is Fundamental. I still think of reading time fondly as DEAR so my reading and book posts are called DEAR.
