DEAR Monday: 4 books in 4 days

In the past 2 1/2 months I hadn’t done any reading… I just wasn’t motivated or inspired. I had other things I wanted to do and then my mom had her stroke. I initially thought I was going to have lots of reading time while my mom was in the hospital but I really didn’t want to do anything while she was in the hospital and we were very busy while at the Rehab Center going from one therapy class to another.

I just checked my Goodreads 2012 challenge page and determined that July 5th was the last date I finished a book. Until last Thursday, September 13th that is. On Thursday I went for my IV infusion of Orencia and usually that process takes approximately an hour and a half. We had a Reading and Winen book club meeting scheduled for Saturday the 15th so I wanted to make sure I did some reading. Molly had started the Lucky Harbor series by Jill Shalvis and she highly recommended the books. I had already ordered the first two paperbacks from PaperBackSwap so I decided to start book 1 while I sat with the IV in. The IV placement did not lend itself to do any knitting and I didn’t want to take a nap.

On Thursday I finished Book 1 of the Lucky Harbor series, Simply Irresistible by Jill Shalvis. On Friday I read Book 2, The Sweetest Thing. On Saturday, I went to the public library and I checked out Book 3, Lucky in Love and Book 4, Head Over Heels. I started Book 3 on Saturday but due to our Reading and Winen meeting I wasn’t able to read straight through. So I finished Book 3 on Sunday morning and read Book 4 after my son’s baseball game. Book 5 is not currently available at the library, I think Molly has it checked out. So that was 4 books in 4 days… those 4 bring my yearly total to 48 books.

Needless to say, these are quick reads, the stories will suck you in and the characters are… let’s see… intriguing. Shalvis manages to write about some really HOT guys in her books. These are Romance books which I know is not everyone’s favorite genre. The nice thing about these is that they have “decent” looking book covers. No trashy romance novel covers. Reading and Winen book club was introduced to this series when we interviewed TJ Lutgring, author of The Difference Between Soccer and Football, for the Reading and Winen blog. In the next week I’ll be writing a review of the four books I’ve read so far over on the Reading and Winen blog.

I know when I get into reading like this it’s because I need an escape. It’s been a bit overwhelming to have my mom home and to be primarily responsible for her care. It’s all going well, we’re establishing our routine. She has had lots of appointments so it’s been a bit of a struggle to go out to her appointments and to continue to do all her home exercises for physical therapy and speech therapy at home too. I know it will get easier the longer she’s home and the more we practice our routine.

Next week I’ll be posting my Fall Into Reading 2012 Challenge list. Are you participating in the challenge hosted by Callpidder Days? The challenge runs from September 22nd to December 21st. I think participating in the challenge will definitely push me past the 52 books in the year mark.

What have you read lately? Do you have any book recommendations for me so that I can include them in my challenge list?

Yeah I think I’ll definitely make 52 for the year. I get IV infusion of Orencia for rheumatoid arthritis, I’ve been getting it for about 2 and a half years now. I was diagnosed in ’04. Everything is about as good as it’s going to get right now, it’s not getting any worse and I’m thankful for that.

I remember reading like crazy when I was hooked on mystery novels by James Patterson. I’m in. I want to try the Fall Reading Challenge.
